Jim Aloise

Jim Aloise, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Columbia Technology Ventures, has 15 years of industrial and academic experience in Technology Commercialization and Patent Licensing across many technologies, including clean energy, digital video compression and transmission, smart building systems, carbon capture, gene expression, automated music characterization, silicon crystallization, microelectronic packaging, digital imaging, as well as others. Jim is responsible for negotiating more than 50 licenses including more than 10 with startups.

As Director of PowerBridgeNY, he leads the combined activities of 2 NYSERDA-funded Clean-Tech Proof of Concept Centers led by Columbia and NYU, which include partners from Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cornell Tech, City University of New York, and Stony Brook University and is tasked with creating NYS-based Clean Energy startups.

Before Columbia, Jim worked at General Electric’s Global Research Center in Niskayuna, NY. He held positions in Business Development, Patent and Technology Licensing, and Trademark Licensing. Before GE, he worked at Hughes Electronics in Product Management, Marketing, and Sales in products such as DirecTV, Fire Sensing and Suppression Systems and Infrared Imaging Systems.

Jim has a BS in Optics from University of Rochester, an MS in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University and an MBA from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA.
